London, 3 October, 2016 – Guy Hands, the founder, Chairman and Chief Investment Officer of Terra Firma Capital Partners, and Sir Howard Davies, Chairman of the Royal Bank of Scotland, will deliver keynote speeches at MIPIM UK on the morning of Wednesday 19th October.
Addressing the UK’s largest conference for the real estate industry, Guy Hands will explore what Brexit really means for UK property and the opportunities for private equity in the UK post-EU Referendum, while Sir Howard Davies will deliver the ‘opening address’ focusing on the macro-economic picture of the property industry.
Guy Hands started his career with Goldman Sachs International before establishing the Principal Finance Group (PFG) at Nomura International plc in 1994. In 2002 he led the spin-out of PFG to form Terra Firma. Over the last 20 years, he has overseen the investment of more than €16bn in 33 businesses with a total enterprise value of more than €48bn. Though Guy has long been an outspoken Eurosceptic, in the lead-up to the EU referendum he was a vocal supporter of the Remain campaign.
Sir Howard Davies was Deputy Governor of the Bank of England from 1995 to 1997 and Chairman of the UK Financial Services Authority from 1997 to 2003. He then moved on to become the Director of the London School of Economics and Political Science from 2003 until May 2011 and is also Professor of Practice at the Paris Institute of Political Science (Sciences Po). Sir Howard recently chaired the UK Airports Commission and is also the author of several books on financial subjects.
“Both Guy Hands and Sir Howard Davies are two major additions to the conference programme at MIPIM UK and they will provide delegates with an insight into their unique take on the future of the property industry. This year MIPIM UK also has unprecedented involvement from government ministers, demonstrating this administration’s commitment to real estate as a major economic driver in post-Brexit UK,” commented Simon Rhodes, Managing Director, Reed MIDEM UK.
Throughout MIPIM UK the conference programme will look at what Brexit means for UK investment, as well as the critical themes around housing, infrastructure, regeneration, workplace, retail, leisure and elderly care.
Speaker highlights include Antoine Castro, Managing Director and Head of Europe, Fosun Property Holdings; Gavin Barwell, Minister for Housing, Planning and London; Jules Pipe, Deputy Mayor of Planning for London; Navid Chamdia, Head of Real Estate Qatar Investment Authority; Paul Stanworth, Managing Director, Legal & General Capital; Rio Ferdinand, Director, Legacy; Stephen Dance, Head of Infrastructure at HM Treasury, and Sir Howard Bernstein, Chief Executive, Manchester City Council.
